Christophe Pillet

Christophe Pillet is one of the world’s most influential furniture designers ever to walk this planet. His graduation was from the Decorative Arts School in Nice in 1985. In 1986, he also earned a Master at the Domus Academy in Milano. In 1991, his first pieces of furnishings were produced by a company called XO. He has been working independently, creating beautiful pieces, without the brutality of mass production and marketability, since 1993.

Christophe
Pillet also deals in many other fields of specialization including interior decoration, product and furniture design, architecture, artistic direction and scenography. He creates objects, furniture and interior designs for Daum, Cappellini, JC Decaux, Ecart International, Driade, L’Oréal, Lacoste, Porro, Renault, Serralunga, Shiseido, Moroso, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Shu Uemura, and Whirlpool. He also creates interior structural design for boutiques, hotels and restaurants such as the very trendy Hôtel Sezz in Paris.

Christophe Pillet vociferously analyses the principles of his liberal domain, aiming at "making life a little prettier”. The flexibility of lines, the concerto with light upon polished layouts, white or colorful, as well as the lack of any excess elements, makes his pieces stylish and temperate, going straight to the indispensable while never being severe. For Christophe, the aim must be in harmony with "the drive to direct people's behaviors’ while respecting their desires".

His most famous pieces are discussed below. The Hillroad is a beautifully shaped armchair, bringing one’s thoughts to the question. Art and life: which imitates which? It is a humbling experience that makes one realize his position in life.

Another example of his design is the Meridiana. It is a small armchair, designed by Christophe Pillet for the global company Driade. It has a polycarbonate body in translucent colors: pink, blue, colorless, smoke-grey, emerald green, ruby red and in the colors black and white. The base is presented in quite a lot of versions such as a fixed base in steel that is chrome-plated, a five-spoke base on several castors, with adjustable height for easier access or an aluminum tube and dies cast iron model. It is primarily purchased for indoor use only.

Vaso is a beautifully shaped lamp vase. It is made of in wonderful hand ground blown glass. It is a wall lamp in milk glass designed by Christophe Pillet. The lamp is characterized by vital, fluid lines that bring forth the valued materials.

Another creation is the H chair, the relaxed, wrap-around seat by Christophe Pillet for the company, Porro. Various typologies of the H chair include the standard version with 4 legs and the model with spokes. They are conjugated with various coverings such as leather, plastic or fabric. The functionality and luxury innate in the continuous plan of the body, a soft casing that curves smoothly, devotedly following the human contour are some of the unique features of this chair. One can adapt the same chair to various uses like a dining chair, small fireside chair for the living room, working chair for the office, etc. Most of his works are displayed at the International Furniture Exhibition 2008 in Milan.
